Moonyeen Ruiz Hontanosas was born and raised in Cebu City, the Philippines where she completed medical school at the Cebu Institute of Medicine. She completed her the three-year pediatric residency program and passed the specialty board given by the Philippine Pediatric Society in 1993. Following her move to the States in 2004, Moonyeen worked as a registered nurse in South Texas for eight years, and, in that time, she completed her masters in Science of Nursing and became a family nurse practitioner in 2012. The following year, in honor of her parents, she founded the Fernando and Loreta Foundation, which helps underprivileged children in the Philippines through Catholic missionaries. Through the foundation, children are afforded a life with access to education and healthcare. Today, Moonyeen has three grown daughters: a CRNA, lawyer and a U.T. Austin college student. She is married to Donald Franklin Turner, a financial consultant, with whom she enjoys home gardening, hiking, and canoeing along Lake Austin on weekends. She sings as a soprano in the St. Theresa’s Choir and the Panoramic Voices of Austin.
